Using Marijuana and Codeine together

Marijuana and codeine are two things that you can use, but together? Not so much, simply because it impacts the brain activity. Plus, codeine and weed do cause some major health problems, especially for those with mental health concerns.

What Codeine is

This is something that’s used as a pain reliever for certain people and is used for pain that’s chronic. It’s used to treat severe to moderate types of pain and is usually the answer when other drugs don’t work. The pain relieving elements of codeine are usually combined with acetaminophen, as they do offer the best effectiveness possible.

Opioids are usually considered controlled substances, so you need a prescription in order to get it.  This is usually only an exception for stuff like Tylenol, which has some codeine in it, but it’s very weak compared to actual codeine medications.

This doesn’t really work well with cannabis simply because it’s an opioid. All opioids and cannabis are a no go together. The CNS gets depressed with this, to the point where, if you mix these, they can slow down so much that the heart rate falls to dangerous levels, and it reduces the intake of oxygen that’s there.

When you take this with marijuana, it then makes the effects like ten times worse, especially for those who already have heart troubles.

Usually though, codeine can be had in tablet forms, and is usually done orally. They go with the lowest amount, and then increase it over time.

This is something that doctors try to limit to only a temporary thing, since it does create a risk for addiction. The purpose of codeine is, of course, to reduce the nerve signals for pain that the brain gets. It works directly with the CNS opioids receptors, and it’s what makes them very effective for pain targeting. It can also be used in medications used for the cold and flu, to control the rate of coughing.

The benefits and Risks

Some might find some benefit with this, but there are serious side effects that come with this, simply because the concentrated amount can be dangerous.

These can include:

  • The suppression of the CNS
  • The slowing of your heart rate
  • Your blood pressure falls dangerously low
  • Your breathing rate gets very low

This can be fatal in a few cases, as this can make things really hard to control.

But not just the dangerous side effects, it’s just not good for those who have mental health problems, as it can make things a whole lot worse, like anxiety or depression. Plus, when you add weed to the pictures,, especially high-THC amounts, this is something that can make those symptoms a whole lot worse for everyone.

What to do

The best thing to understand is that you should talk to your doctor to figure out other forms of treatment.

Obviously, opioids are not a long-term treatment, as this causes addiction and abuse when you use them. cannabis is a much better option if you’re looking for ways to relieve pain, simply because it can help with neuropathy that you get from cancer, and even helps with muscle pain that’s chronic, MS, and the like. The provider that you have will be able to determine whether or not this is an alternative for you, but you might be able to get some amazing results with this. The key thing here is to talk to your doctor, and find out the best types of ways to alleviate pain, and the best treatments to make this work too.
